Welcome owners to the new season of SFFL !
I believe I've worked out all the bugs on these various pages and cleaned them up somewhat. Your secretary has been spending a lot of time learning this new software inside and out -- all to bring you the best fantasy football experience possible.
I've got about half the lineups at this point, so be sure to get your lineup in sometime on Saturday. Remember, the deadline is 9:00 pm, just 12 short hours from now. Lineup submission is similar to last year, when on your team page just click on "submit lineup" in the upper left corner. No extra trashtalk space yet -- I'll work on that.
Another deadline coming up soon is the Supplemental Draft. It will be held in Spokane WA on October 9th, but all the other details are up in the air. Give Tony a call if you can help out with location. If you're good, maybe Brian will bring us some Buckhead Beer.
Here's the schedule for this week, and below that some old familiar links.
Week 1 Schedule
Brian vs Thom
Dennis vs Dean
Mark vs Brent & Doug
Bill vs Craig
Shawn vs Tony
Jeff vs Steve
Hurricane Dennis roared past the Orcas as Pittsburgh put in the star performance of the week, giving the Wolverines the first shutout of the season. Could this be a return of the famed "Steel Curtain" ? Adding insult to the situation, QB Troy Aikman put together a definite star performance on the Orca bench.
This might be a good time to mention a new award I have proposed -- the "oops" award. Basically this goes to the coach who has the most points sitting on his bench in weeks one through fourteen. Dean is the early leading candidate. Other proposed awards can be found at the bottom of the expense report.
In other news, my team was devastated by injury added to insult, as Vinny Testaverde is out for the season and joins perpetual holdout Joey Galloway on the sidelines. The phantoms coach was on the phone before the fourth quarter trying to arrange a trade. "The superbowl rematch may have been won by Buckheads, but we've still got the mug." Maybe theres a punter available in the draft.
This would be a really good time to mention that the Supplemental Draft is being held in Spokane on Saturday, October 9th. Time and location are still unknown, but it seems like the Viking worked pretty well before. Remember, all trades made at the Supplemental Draft take place immediately.
Another great performance was put in by the returning Steve's Trojans, showing up anyone who said a team that picked last every round couldn't win. Of course, everybone in that division won this week, so perhaps it's just a fluke.
This is a great time to mention great performances by Craig's Jaguars and Shawn's Lone Gunmen, both now leading their divisions. And Mark's Mariners got past the cellar-dwelling Ospreys to take the lead in their division. Way to go!
OK, Picks should be up on the page (and lineup pages -- fingers crossed) by Wednesday this week. If you are calling in or mailing your lineup, feel free to mention your picks. This weeks final results and next weeks schedule are below, with the rest of the information in the links to your left. Personally, I am picking the Wolverines to upset the Warlocks in our Game of the Week.

Star performance of the week was QB Drew Bledsoe, seen here leading my Patriots past the Colts in week 2. That plus a good day by Ben Coates led Bill's Hornets past Mark's Mariners.
Keeping with Bill's team for a moment, his "best in category" performances by RB Stephen Davis and Kicker Olindo Mare will keep his team in the hunt for the "Oops" award. I guess he can't be blamed since he has been rather busy lately.
The top scoring team this week was Thom's Phantoms led by RB Ricky Watters, leaning for an extra yard here. A win by Shawn's Lone Gunmen as well leads to a sweep of the Prosser division by the At Large division. Way to go guys !
If Dennis' Wolverines had won as I predicted in my picks, the Spokane East division would have swept the West division as well. Instead they can brag about that loss being the only one for the division.
I should mention the injuries. Former Phantom quarterbacks Chris Chandler and Steve McNair join Vinny on the bench, although McNair might start this week. With all these injuries I should remind you about the Supplemental Draft (October 9th in Spokane) and the Waiver Wire after that.
Finally, there have been a few more tweaks on team lineup submission pages. As Jeff pointed out, the page did not update after he sent his lineup in. That's correct! Until I implement more java scripts to do that, those pages are created with default checkboxes in the previous weeks lineup. What you will get, if I have your correct email address, is that lineup will be mailed to you and me -- nearly instant verification. Also, be sure to check the Lineups and Trash Talk page on Friday or Saturday to see your actual lineup -- and that of your opponent!
This weeks picks will go here -- I left the various email messages on my home computer :( Here are some place holders.

The starting quarterback with the best performance this week was Rich Gannon, who helped lead Jeff's Wizards past the resurgent Ospreys. The Ospreys got a heck of a performance from kicker Norm Peterson, but unfortunately Jeff possessed Seattle's outstanding Defense, with their two touchdowns and only 272 yards allowed.
I would also like to congratulate Dean's Orcas for having a record low of 16 points on his bench. Unfortunately good player selection does not a winning team make, as Tony's Warlocks scoot past the Orcas 57-52. Each team got just 6 points from their Monday Night players, and the Warlocks win this round of the "trash match".
Congratulations also go out to Steve's Trojans, getting a fine pile of points from receivers Marvin Harrison and Tim Brown -- and no points from his quarterback. Perhaps Steve can orchestrate a trade with his QB rich opponent Bill. Other teams needing quarterbacks include my own Phantoms and my opponent this week, the Jaguars.
Remember all trades made at the supplemental draft happen right away -- no down week. Where is that draft? Sources tell me in Spokane, although our commissioner is pleading that he cannot make it in any other form than electronic bytes. Is there a cybercafe in town?
Looks like the Lone Gunmen made it past the Wolverines in the Game of the Week. That will help my percentage in the . . .

This weeks Game of the Week -- one brother wore blue, the other wore grey. Steve's Trojans, 3-0 despite picking last in every round of the draft go up against Tony's Warlocks at 2-1. I've got to give the edge to the Trojans, with the most points for in the league. For the rest of the schedule, look below.
Well, that's the wrap-up for this week. Next week I'll post the order for the Supplemental Draft and pack my bags for chilly Spokane WA.

Best performance this week was generated by Redskin Brad Davis, helping Brian's Buckheads withstand another challenge. That's right, nobody has had the opportunity to claim "I Beat Brian" -- his only loss so far was to non-competitor Mark's Mariners. The next "I Beat Brian" challenge is Tony's Warlocks in week 8. Brad Johnson gets a break for his efforts, the Redskins have a bye in week 5.
Brother Tony didst beat upon Brother Steve in the Game of the Week. Had Steve played Emmitt Smith or had a QB who scored some points it might have been more of a challenge, but congrats to the Warlocks anyhow.
Speaking of Quarterbacks, the Supplemental Draft is this next Saturday (October 9th) in Spokane. Sure to be high on everyones draft list are these two guys, former Arena League QB Kurt Warner and WR Az-zahir Hakim. Probable location and time is the Viking Tavern at 7:00 pm. Call former commissioner Tony for further details, or check back here on Friday the 8th. Remember, Web Pages will not be updated with new players on Saturday Night !
Closest game this week was Dennis' Wolverines just squeaking past the Ospreys of Brent & Doug 66 to 65. Flutie, Martin and Smith combined for just 13 points in Monday Night play, and that was just enough.
Tony : Warlocks, Wolverines, Buckheads, Lone Gunmen, Hornets, Mariners (5-1)
Thom : Trojans, Wolverines, Buckheads, Lone Gunmen, Hornets, Phantoms (5-1)
Shawn : Trojans, Wolverines, Jaguars, Lone Gunmen, Hornets, Phantoms (4-2)

Shawn .667 (12-6)
Tony .667 (8-4)
Steve .583 (7-5)
Jeff .500 (6-6)
Dennis .444 (8-10)

Overall, the draft was a success for the four owners who decided to show up. Much discussion was made of writing a fee into the bylaws for drafting for somebody, although I would gladly vote for Brian's beer idea.
There were also numerous trades to go with the acquisitions. The Orcas sent Steve Young to the Wizards for draft picks 2-6, the Warlocks sent Robert Smith to the Orcas for some draft picks and waiver, and Shawn sent Karim Abdul Jabbar to the Warlocks for more draft picks. This resulted in Tony's Warlocks picking up some 12 guys this year. Brian's last draft choice was quoted as saying "that sure is a lot of guys." All supplemental picks are listed on the Standings page.
On to the results. This Sunday the Boston team beat the Cleveland team 23 to 7. Oh yeah, that was baseball. Still, only six NFL teams managed to score more than 23 points this week. Apparently the Indians are more like the Browns than we thought. And speaking of the Browns, their team defense is still available for those of you who have supplemental picks remaining . . .
Remember, teams that haven't made their supplemental draft picks have until this Thursday Night at 7:00 pm. After that the waiver wire opens for all owners, and I can pick up Billy Jo Tolliver to back up the oft-injured Billy Jo Hobert. Teams with picks remaining are the Lone Gunmen (2), Jaguars (6), and Mariners (6).
The Lone Gunmen were the victors in the Game of the Week, getting strong performances from Isaac Bruce and Eric Moulds. Eddy Kennison also had a strong performance on the Gunmen bench, leading Shawn to capture three of the top five Wide Recievers in the Weekly All Stars.
Thom : Lone Gunmen, Wraiths, Wolverines, Warlocks, Wizards, Whales (6-0)
Jeff : Lone Gunmen, Phantoms, Wolverines, Warlocks, Wizards, Orcas (6-0)

Thursday Game This Week ! There, got that out of my system. All week 7 lineups are due by 4:20 Pacific Time this Thursday, the 21st of October.
Shawn's Lone Gunmen picked up their first divisional win to remain undefeated on the season in the toughest division in the SFFL. Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren has said they could have used Joey Galloway this week, but even the 199 yards and two TDs he scored against the Chargers last year wouldn't have helped my Phantoms, who couldn't even outscore Hornet kicker Olindo Mare. I promise to try and pick a more challenging Game of the Week next time.
Bill's Hornets also won their game over the idling Jaguars, who drop to 1-5. Tony's Warlocks beat the Ospreys in the same division to go to 5-1, and left his best offensive weapon (QB Steve Beuerlein) on the bench. The Warlock coach's only comment so far has been "This divisional realignment sure works for me."
In the other divisional games, Jeff's Wizards did as they usually do and clubbed the hapless Orcas 75-47. And Dennis Wolverines beat the Buckheads by a more respectable 60-51.
In another note, some strange scoring showed up on bye weeks. I found out that the defaults in the program (FFLM) were to award points based on an average of previous weeks (4 for Kickers, 2 for TE, etc.) -- frankly I think it was a bug. However it didn't change any scoring (nobody plays a guy who has a bye, right?) other than the bench points might be a little higher than normal. I fixed it and on with the season!
The Mariners and Lone Gunmen made their pickups before the deadline this week, and we already have waivers to report. Brian's Buckheads waived sixth round supplemental pick TE D.Smith, SF to pick up Alvin Harper of the Cowboys. And already this week my Phantoms will waive QB Vinny Testaverde to pick up another QB who actually plays, this time Billy Joe Tolliver. Remember all waivers need to be paid directly to the Secretary this year!
Tony : Lone Gunmen, Wizards, Warlocks, Buckheads, Trojans, Hornets (5-1)

Dean's Orcas pulled out their second win on the season over divisional rival Mark's Mariners with a strong performance by Terrance Mathis. Our commissioner was so sure he was going to lose that he was looking to next weeks opponent for some relief.
Our Game of the Week was a close match, as the Trojans did indeed pull out a win over the rival Wolverines. There was no one star player but instead great performances from Brian Griese, Tim Brown, and Marvin Harrison.
Shawn's Lone Gunmen managed a win over the upsurging Brent and Doug's Ospreys. The Ospreys managed the third highest overall score this week with the assistance of quarterback Rick Mirer, but unfortunately they were playing the team with the highest score. Better luck next time guys.
As QB Billy Joe Tolliver joins the quarterback camp that is the 1999 Phantoms, don't forget to get your own waivers in. At the bottom of each of the team web pages there's a "kitty summary" and it shows the league owing each owner $2 for their paid or free waivers. (No, you don't get $2 back if you don't use that free waiver!)

Well it's probably hard for you owners to guess the headline this week. Both the undefeated teams fell this week, the Rams despite a great performance by Marshall Faulk, and the Lone Gunmen because of it. Congratulations to Mark's Mariners for beating the seemingly unbeatable Shawn, and in a week when he scored 119 points to boot!
Doug & Brent's Ospreys almost managed to win again this week, but instead lost by just two points, 91 to 89. Steve's Trojans are proving they haven't fallen far from contention.
Finally, the Game of the Week was anything but a close match, as Brian's Buckheads nearly double the 48 points scored by Tony's Warlocks, assited by Minnesota staple Cris Carter. Brett Favre looked positively weak in Monday Night Football, leading to the demise of most teams with Green Bay star players.
I almost hate to mention it, but the Waiver and Trade deadline is fast approaching. Don't forget about those freebies! As you will see on the status page, the Lone Gunmen are picking up Greg Hill and dropping Greg Clark.

I declared the game over in my early email, but I forgot all about Cowboy running back Emmitt Smith. Steve's Trojans gain a huge offensive burst and pick up the seasons first tie against Shawn's Lone Gunmen. The Game of the Week just doesn't get any closer than that. Both teams are still on top of their divisions, Shawn up by 2 and 1/2 games, Steve up by 1 and 1/2.
Tony's Warlocks, with their win over the Jaguars, clinched their divisional title this week. This reporter is hoping that Tony decides to start his scrubs from here on out, starting with this weeks game against the Phantoms.
And oh what a week those Phantoms had. Guessing right on quarterbacks, the Phantoms managed to match Bill's week 8 score of 124, tied for second highest on the season. Germane Crowell was a major contributor with 163 yards, a touchdown and a two-point conversion reception. Adding to the Phantoms joy is the news that Joey Galloway is back in camp.
Two more waivers to report from last week. Dean waived QB Ty Detmer in order to pick up WR Tim Dwight of Atlanta. Shawn dropped TE Greg Clark in order to acquire RB Greg Hill. Remember, the waiver and trade deadline is less than two weeks away (Saturday, November 20th at 9:00 pm)

Your secretary tries to pick the close ones, but I haven't had much luck this year. The Game of the Week was a blowout -- Jeff's Wizards stomped Mark's Mariners. But the close game was Doug & Brent's Ospreys nearly surpassing Craig's Jaguars for their first win, lead by Seahawk Sean Dawkins. The Jaguars got a phenom Monday night performance from Curtis Martin to pull to a tie.
In other news, Dennis' Wolverines upended Dean's Orcas with the help of Monday Night action from Keyshawn Johnson and Adam Vinatieri. The real star on the team was RB Tyrone Wheatley who scored twice in addition to picking up 92 yards.
One more waiver to report from this last week. Jeff's Wizards waived Andre Reed in order to pick up QB Damon Huard of Miami. I probably don't need to remind anyone to make their waiver picks by this Saturday, November 20th at 9:00 pm.

Two of the three Prosser division teams were included in the great performances of the week. The third was the recipient of the loss in our Game of the Week. However, first things first.
Mark's Mariners kept their playoff chances alive by beating the newest punching bag of the SFFL, Tony's Warlocks. Personally, I think the Warlock coach is playing in his hat, since they've clinched a berth in the playoffs and there's no home field advantage in the SFFL.
The other fantastic performance was by rookie kicker (and very excited guy) Martin Gramatica, leading Jeff's Wizards to an unexpected victory over Steve's Trojans. The Prosser division title is their's to lose at this point. I think Martin is good enough to be a keeper, and nobody has kept a kicker in the SFFL in quite a while.
Finally, the Game of the Week featured another victory by Brian's Buckheads over the Orcas. Brian only has one more challenge to go, but more about that lower on the page.
There were two "buzzer-beater" waivers to report this week. Mark dropped Rae Carruth for the Denver QB, Chris Miller. And Shawn dropped several guys but in the end decided on Eddie Kennison to pick up journeyman QB Gus Frerotte.
Jeff : Buckheads, Phantoms, Wizards, Mariners, Hornets, Lone Gunmen (5-1)

In our Game of the Week, Brian's Buckheads were kind enough to leave the offense of Jeff George on the bench, allowing Thom's Phantoms to claim I Beat Brian ! The Phantoms were aided by good production out of their newest starting QB, Donovan McNabb. Former QB Trent Dilfer allegedly broke his clavicle in protest.
Mark's Mariners continued to hang on to a playoff berth, beating Dean's Orcas. The Orcas aren't out of it yet, however -- with two wins (combined with Mark and Bill's losses) the fish can just grab the fourth playoff spot in the At Large conference. The Lone Gunmen, Phantoms, and Wizards are all in the playoffs already.
In the Spokane Conference, Doug & Brent's Ospreys beat divisional rival Craig's Jaguars with a fine performance from Mark Brunell. The Osprey quarterback has been a disappointment all year, but shows signs of turning up the heat in time for the revamped Spud Bowl. The Spokane Conference playoff picture is already sewn up, with the Jaguars and Ospreys sitting this one out.
Speaking of the Spud Bowl, here's a little reminder. Each team (except the two in the SFFL Championship Superbowl) submits a regular lineup, and the team that generates the most points gets the prize -- a credit towards his league dues for the year 2000.
Tony : Trojans, Ospreys, Mariners, Lone Gunmen, Phantoms, Warlocks (5-1)
Thom : Phantoms, Wolverines, Ospreys, Mariners, Lone Gunmen, Wizards (5-1)
Overall percentages are now: Jeff .667 (20-10) Doug .667 (4-2) Mark .667 (4-2) Tony .632 (36-21) Thom .621 (41-25) Shawn .574 (31-23) Steve .548 (23-19) Brian .500 (6-6) Dennis .444 (16-20)
My other picks this week are the Buckheads, Lone Gunmen, Hornets, Orcas, and the Warlocks to end the Osprey's undefeated streak. Yes, I picked Shawn to win this game -- he had 94 starting points and another 162 on his bench this week. Barring several catastrophic plane crashes, I think the Lone Gunmen are going to go all the way this year. Does that mean we need to mail the Mug to Texas?

Let's start off in the Spokane Conference, Western division, where Tony's Warlocks backup QB Steve Beuerlein tried to make a statement by beating starting QB Brett Favre in an intra-squad practice. The divisional champion Warlocks are getting ready for a first-round matchup against Dennis' Wolverines. The Warlocks won their previous meeting in week 2 58-48.
Eastern division rivals Brian's Buckheads look to take on the upstart Steve's Trojans who are making a playoff appearance despite drafting last in every round. Unfortunately, history favors the Buckheads with big wins in both divisional matchups (week 10 and week 13).
Over in the At Large Conference, Jeff's Wizards utilized a solid performance from Corey Dillon to cinch their divisional championship. It came down to the total points scored for the year, but their 1208 ultimately topped the Mariners 1187. The Wizards get ready to take on the team with the second highest win percentage, Thom's Phantoms. The Wizards won the previous matchup in week 8 66-44.
Saving the best for almost last, Shawn's Lone Gunmen hope to bounce back from a loss in week 14 against Prosser division stronghold Mark's Mariners. The Mariners showed their proficiency edging the previous week 8 contest 123-119. The Lone Gunmen's 11-2-1 finish is second only to Dean's Orcas finish of 12-2 last year.
Speaking of Dean's Orcas, the four teams to qualify for the Spud Bowl so far are the Orcas, Ospreys, Jaguars, and Hornets. So far the edge goes to the Hornets, scoring 1079 total points for this season. Their berth is assured by having the toughest schedule, their opponents managing 1227 points collectively, a number only topped by the Lone Gunmen's points for of 1233. Having to play the Lone Gunmen twice probably didn't help either.
The other non-positional prize category was the Secretary's Picks, and it was won this year by your's truly. With a record of 44-28 I finished at .611, followed closely by Tony at .603 (38-25). Shawn was not far off with a .550 percentage (33-27). For this weeks unofficial picks, I think the At Large division will rally to stop the Prosser division, the Buckheads should continue their winning ways, and the Warlocks will win a close one over the Wolverines. The swami has spoken . . .

This week we start in the At Large Conference, where we congratulate Shawn's Lone Gunmen, beating Mark's Mariners with a fine performance from Marcus Robinson. Olandis Gary was solid as always, and Muhsin Muhammad managed three TDs from the bench.
The Lone Gunmen go on to face Thom's Phantoms who managed to outscore the slumping Jeff's Wizards. The Phantoms have been lucky enough to start the one QB on their bench who scores any points for the last few weeks and need that luck to continue, since the Lone Gunmen won each of the previous matchups (in week 6 and week 13).
Over in the Spokane Conference, Brian's Buckheads showed why they almost won the I Beat Brian pot this year by fairly trouncing Steve's Trojans and earning the highest score this week. Brian managed forty points from this Monday Night matchup, even though the Buckheads already had the contest won. They now go on to face . . .
Tony's Warlocks managed a tie against Dennis' Wolverines, and it all came down to the QB who has continued to perform on Tony's bench, Steve Beuerlein. I like to think of Steve as a portable home-field advantage. The Warlocks faced the rival Buckheads back in week 8 and we all know who beat who in that contest.
Those of you who have been following this whole thing might have noticed that I didn't remind anybody to turn in their three sequential tie breakers. I have modified the lineup pages to accomadate this, and fortunately my faux pas was covered up by Tony, who turned his tie breakers in to our commissioner, Dean. Also remember there is a Friday game this week; early lineup rules do apply.
I hope that the eight of you who are now out of the playoffs are getting ready for the Spud Bowl, our special Y2K edition. Right now it is the captain-less Craig's Jaguars who led this weeks scoring. Who will it be in week 17 ?!?

Making his fourth appearance on this web page in 1999, and fresh off his second start of the year, Steve Beuerlein led Tony's Warlocks past the Euro-Buckheads for the Spokane Conference Championship. Steve had a white Christmas in the second half of this game but managed two long touchdowns and 277 yards.
This will be Tony's fourth superbowl appearance, a history that includes a loss to Brian's Buckaroos and a win over Bill's Hornets (as the Charlatans) and a win over Thom's Phantoms (as the Knights).
Making his second appearance on this page, Olandis Gary had a great game with one long TD and 185 yards to lead Shawn's Lone Gunmen past my Phantoms for the At Large Conference Championship. Shawn's 104 team points and double digits from five positions gave him the most points among playoff competitors this week.
This will be Shawn's first superbowl appearance. Previous postseason attempts were ended in the first round by Jeff's Wizards and Thom's Phantoms.
Not only is the superbowl decided, but next years "extra week" schedule is decided as well. The matchups are Tony vs Shawn, Thom vs Brian, Steve vs Jeff, Dennis vs Mark, Bill vs Doug&Brent, and Craig vs Dean. Unless of course we have changes in ownership...
Finally folks, the rest of us are competing for the Spud Bowl trophy -- a twenty dollar credit towards next season! All of the lineup pages have been modified with tie breakers, so please submit your lineups and sequential tie breakers this week. Dean's Orcas led the scoring in week 16 with a great performance from QB Kurt Warner, who is expected to rest after picking up his record breaking yardage and one touchdown pass.

It came down to a battle of the quarterbacks . . .
It came down to the only player in the Monday Night Game . . .
And it wasn't Tony who had that player ?!?
That's right, the Warlocks were leading 99-72 coming into the Monday Night game, and that's when Chris Chandler found the guts to pass for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. This performance pushed Shawn's Lone Gunmen to their first ever Superbowl Championship. I watched a lot of the game, and the 49ers didn't just roll over and play dead for the Falcons. Congratulations, Shawn, and remember, you pay for postage.
Coincidentally, the Spud Bowl was also decided on Monday night, by Chris Chandler's favorite receiver, Tim Dwight, shown here celebrating in a manner not condoned by the NFL. Tim had 2 touchdown receptions, 162 offensive yards, and a 70 yard punt return for a touchdown. His 40 points shoved Dean's Orcas to a fitting win in the Spud Bowl. Dean's third worst record in the league means he would have just missed playing in the old-format spud bowl. And adding insult to injury, Dean still has that Barry Sanders guy who is now talking about coming out of retirement. Nice call, Commish!
That about wraps this page for the season, folks. Stay tuned for a rules discussion in August or so, and a link to a chat room for the 2000 draft (anybody with an internet connection can participate live!) The draft order of every round is listed below -- unless we have new teams, which get added to the bottom.
