Week Two 2000

Welcome to Week Two of the SFFL season. Your faithful secretary has worked out nearly all the kinks of the stats software and is happy to report that nobody thought they had a different score in week one.

Of course, not everybody even SAW their stats for week one so I am extending the error-reporting deadline until this Saturday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars found more ways to score this week and helped Mark's Mariners obliterate the competition. Mark, who swears that this is his last year, is attempting to be the first team to reach 200 points in a week, or perhaps just the first team to score in triple digits every week.

Jacksonville Quarterback Mark Brunell also did well this week, helping out Brent & Doug's Ospreys in a match of the two teams who never submit lineups. I just hope I play the Ospreys during a Jaguar bye week.

Tony Banks was also stellar this week, but it wasn't enought to help out the former superbowl champion Lone Gunmen. Banks' receiver Shannon Sharpe proved he can catch other places than Denver and led Dean's Orcas to triple digit bench points.

Last but definitely not least, Tony Beat Brian. That's right, I beat him in week one but certain elements of the league think that it doesn't count. Since I collected the whole prize last year (a whopping $8) I'll be content to let Tony buy me a beer this year . . .

. . . at the Supplemental Draft! In Seattle on October 7th, probably in the afternoon. Please RSVP with your lineups because there's a hockey game that night. I'll help with any lodging requests, and please drop Marc a line to tell him to be there - no excuses for new guys!

Your overworked secretary has gnomes working around the clock to calculate the "Picks" scores, but since it wasn't on the web pages last week, I am boosting everybody to six for six. A perfect week all around! For this week I'll pick the Gunmen over the Lineup-less trojans, the Orcas to beat the Wolverines, the Secret Agent Men to beat the hapless Buckheads, Wizards over Ospreys, Marines over anybody else, and I think my Phantoms can probably beat the Warlocks.

Seriously, though, all the web-page problems should be resolved and they are all awaiting your lineup submissions. Just select your team from the menu on the left, then at the top of the menu you will see "submit lineup." Select your starters and jab that send button. If you can't see the menu it's probably because you have Java turned off -- I don't use it, but the new software does, so quit your whining.

Week Three 2000

Week Three has come and gone, and there's only one team with no wins. Congratulations go out to Brian's Buckheads on that honor.

This week it was Marshall Faulk's turn to help Mark's Mariners slip by the second highest score for the week, Bill's Hornets. Even though this was one of the lowest scoring weeks in the NFL, Mark managed to keep his team in triple digits. Shawn, the zip code for Prosser is 99350.

The other Marc's team put in the third best performance this week. Rookie Marc's Secret Agent Men beat up on the hapless Buckheads this week.

The other Prosser teams also won again this week. Dean's Orcas behind the power of Kurt Warner, and Jeff's Wizards on solid averages. This is probably a good time to mention the Scores and Standings page on the menu to the left. At the bottom of that page you will find the Draft Order for the supplemental. Looks like the Prosser division drafts last; Brian and I are vying for the top spot.

A few things about the lineup system. When you select your lineup it will now be emailed to your opponent as well as the secretary. However, no lineup is legal until validated by yours truly, so just because Dean decides he will play Kurt Warner and Elvis Grbac doesn't mean he will be getting points for both of them.

Also, and very important, no lineups will be accepted after Saturday at 9 p.m., or one hour before game time on weeks with earlier games. This is a stated SFFL rule, and due to an official protest we will be abiding by it until it is changed. Remember, this applies to email too!

And to end on a good note, there will be four owners at the post-draft Hockey game (Tony, Dean, Brian, and myself). To those who haven't noticed, each of the teams now has a helmet (maybe that will help Brian's win percentage) with logo proudly displayed on the team page AND the history page.

I managed to miss the bus on the Gunmen and the Phantoms this week, but still got a 4 for 6. Here's the week 1 stats: Here's the week 3 stats:

Week Four 2000

Bill's Hornets took advantage of Monday Night to rack up the weeks high score over Steve's Trojans. Bill also got solid performances from Longwell, Lewis, and Tony Gonzalez. Curtis Martin tried to carry the Trojans, but just couldn't pull it off.

This weeks surprise team has got to be Doug and Brent's Ospreys, making triple digits where they didn't really need it to Beat Brian. Congratulations to the Ospreys, making a good start at 2-2. For some reason, the Buckheads are 0-4 this year. Perhaps they don't have enough Minnesota players?

In the Game of the Week we have an upset. That's right, although Mark's Mariners managed to make triple digits, they lost to Marc's Secret Agent Men by just three points. Charlie Garner thought he was playing for a different Forty-Niner team and helped this years rookie topple the early Superbowl contender.

In other news, Dean's Orcas managed to pin one on the kicker-less Thom's Phantoms. The Orcas had the second highest total score this week due in large part to that Non-Leaf-y quarterback of theirs.

This news is in no way related to Dean trashing my team this week. The Supplemental Draft has been moved to Prosser !!! It should be held at approximately the same time, although details and exact location are up in the air. Although we won't be going to a Hockey Game after the draft, Dean has agreed to make it up to us by buying all the hoppy beverages.

This probably means the regular draft will be in Seattle next year, and Marc has agreed to bribe all the attending owners with "large quanities of THE FINEST BEER IN ALL THE LAND." I hope somebody has explained to Marc that that doesn't mean Rainier . . .

Week Five 2000

Another Prosser Sweep!

Wide Receiver and Minnesota Viking Randy Moss led Dean's Orcas to the high score for the week, trouncing Steve's Trojans. The Orcas also got fine performances from kicker Jeff Wilkins and some quarterback named Kurt.

Our Game of the Week went pretty much as predicted, with Mark's Mariners going to triple digits again and beating Tony's Warlocks. The Warlocks Brett Favre could have almost turned the difference, scoring 31 points to starter Beurlein's zero. Mark is on a blistering pace to score 1601 points over the course of the regular season.

The final team in triple digits was Jeff's Wizards. Donovan McNabb had 33, Drew Bledsoe had 33. Eddie George had 23, Stephen Davis had 23. There were only two differences -- Bill's Hornets didn't have Robert Smith, who scored 24 points; and the Hornets didn't start those key matchup players. Doh!

So here's how the Supplemental looks this year:
Supplemental Draft Order
Chargers Brian's Buckheads 0-5 (0-2,231)
Bears Steve's Trojans 1-4 (0-2,331)
Seahawks Thom's Phantoms 2-3 (0-2,295)
Tony's Warlocks 2-3 (1-1,323)
Dennis' Wolverines 2-3 (1-1,336)
Doug & Brent's Ospreys 2-3 (2-0,378)
Bill's Hornets 2-3 (2-0,548)
Chiefs Jeff's Wizards 3-2 (1-1,391)
Shawn's Lone Gunmen 3-2 (1-1,404)
Ravens Marc's Secret Agent Men 4-1 (1-1,461)
Mark's Mariners 4-1 (1-1,572)
Rams Dean's Orcas 5-0 (2-0,544)

A reminder and rule clarification. If you don't attend the draft in Prosser and you don't find a proxy to draft for you, you will have five days to pick six free players from the pool. That means the deadline (and start of the waiver wire) is Thursday, October 12th, 9:00 p.m.

That's all the news for now. See you in Prosser!

Week Six 2000

Well, it couldn't be a sweep for Prosser this week, our first week of Divisional Play. Let's take it one at a time.

Mark's Mariners fell just two points shy of triple digits for the first time all season, and that was enough for Rich Gannon and Jeff's Wizards to notch a win against their divisional opponent. Eddie George also had a fine performance.

In the Game of the Week, Shawn's Lone Gunmen fell to Thom's Phantoms, despite a zero score from the Phantoms quarterback Chris Chandler. The secretaries team also holds a new record, scoring just two points on the bench. Fortunately, the Phantoms draft third overall in the Supplemental Draft this weekend.

I hate to give this guy any press, but Dallas celebrator and all around numbskull Terrell Owens helped push Brent & Doug's Ospreys past new divisional rival Bill's Hornets. The Ospreys are now in first place in their division, surging past the 3-3 Warlocks with higher total points.

The final divisional matchup had Dennis' Wolverines shoot past Steve's Trojans. Of course, the Trojans one win is better than their divisonal rival, the winless Buckheads. Brian's team may have set another record for the modern league -- lowest points in a week with 21.

The owners will meet in Seattle this Saturday, even though that other Seattle team is playing. For that matter, some of you might have tickets?!? Anyhow, I think ten a.m. would be the best time. Please RSVP with your ideas . . .
Here is the order for the Supplemental draft (still):

The new start time for the Waiver Wire is Thursday, October 19th, 9:00 p.m. And don't forget, the rest of your kitty is due at the Supplemental !

I have to pick another divisional rivalry this week. I'm going to have to say that this week may be Dean's Orcas best chance to lose.

Week Seven 2000

The second week of divisional play is in the books, and it was chock full of upsets.

In our Game of the Week, we had the first and biggest upset. Eddie George and Jeff's Wizards unseated their undefeated divisional rival, Dean's Orcas. Our commissioner started the wrong defense in this one, (Be sure and read those return emails closely!) but in the end it wouldn't have mattered which defense he started.

Jeff was one of the owners who did Not attend the Supplemental draft, claiming to have Mariner tickets. Attendance tied the all time low record, and even your humble secretary had to manage four draft lists. Efforts are underway to eliminate the supplemental draft in the future.

In another major upset this week, Ricky Williams and Doug and Brent's Ospreys totally trashed Tony's Warlocks. The Ospreys got into triple digits, and pulled over .500 for the first time in quite a while.

In two other divisional games, Steve's Trojans held their own over the winless Buckheads of Brian, and Thom's Phantoms managed their first triple digit week over the Secret Agent Men of Marc.

The Phantoms were also involved in the only trade made at the supplemental, swapping Running Back Michael Pittman and Quarterbacks Trent Green and former Cougar Ryan Leaf for the Orcas backup Quarterback, Elvis Grbac. Ryan Leaf had no comment as he unpacked his foosball table.

Thursday Game this week !!!

All lineups are due one hour before game time.
That being said, the Waiver Wire also opens this Thursday, right after the game. Remember, most teams have a free waiver for receiving only the electronic version of the stats.

Picks

Well, I said that last week was the Orcas best chance to lose -- I should have stayed with that and picked the Wizards. I also want to say that you guys are making it real tough this year - lots of (5-1) and (4-2). Here's the results: Overall standings are:
Marc (27-9) .750 , Thom (30-12) .714 , Brian (17-7) .708 , Mark (21-9) .700 , Bill (29-13) .690 , Dennis (27-15) .642 , Dean (26-16) .619 , Tony (22-20) .524
The also rans:
Doug (12-6) .667 , Jeff (9-9) .500 ,

Game of the Week

No divisional games this week, so I'll pick a conference rivalry. Both the Wolverines and the Ospreys are leading their respective divisions. I think the Ospreys are going to come out on top. I'll also pick the Hornets, the Wizards, the Orcas, the Phantoms, and finally Tony's Warlocks to rebound and beat his brothers Trojans.

Steve's Trojans 59
Doug & Brent's Ospreys 113
Dean's Orcas 86
Marc's Secret Agent Men 77
Mark's Mariners 123
Shawn's Lone Gunmen 67

Week Eight 2000

Hey guys, sorry this is so late. Work is kicking my ass, lately.

Tony's Warlocks used the strength and power of Washington Running Back Albert Connell to surpass his brother's Trojans. The Warlocks find themselves in triple digits and back to .500 at 4-4.

Our Game of the Week was another triple digit final, with Brent and Doug's Ospreys jetting past the Wolverines. The strange thing is that despite the loss, Dennis' team continues to lead his division at 3-5 . . .

. . . which brings me to the Buckheads. Brian's team lost again, this time to Bill's Hornets, to fall to 0-8 for the season. The Buckheads don't quite have the first draft pick mathematically wrapped up, and Steve's Trojans are giving them quite a run for the bottom spot.

Jeff's Wizards lost this week to Marc's Secret Agent Men. Of course they wouldn't have lost if they had played former Husky Correy Dillon, who went off and broke the NFL game rushing record.

Only two other scores to report - my Phantoms lost to the triple-digit Mariners of Mark, who are finally leading their division thanks to a win by the Lone Gunmen over the hapless Orcas.

Speaking of the Orcas, their owner was thanking his lucky stars for the trade he made to acquire QB Trent Green, now the starter in St. Louis. Here are the other waivers:

Finally, one trade to report - Doug & Brent have traded QB Plummer to Dennis for RB J Stewart, WR K Johnson, QB Kitna and WR D Mayes. Those traded players can start this week (the trade happened before week 8). The waived players above will be eligible in week 10. (another rule I want to eliminate)

Picks

Overall standings are:
Marc (31-11) .738 , Thom (33-15) .688 , Mark (24-12) .667 , Bill (32-16) .667 , Dean (30-18) .625 , Dennis (29-19) .604 , Tony (26-22) .542
The also rans:
Brian (17-7) .708 , Doug (12-6) .667 , Jeff (13-11) .542

Game of the Week

I think the divisional crunch will be Jeff's Wizards and Mark's Mariners. Of course, Jeff only wins divisional games against the Orcas, so I'll give this one to the triple-digit king, Mark. I'll also pick the Ospreys, the Wolverines, the Phantoms, the Lone Gunmen, and finally the Hornets to upset the Orcas.

Week Nine 2000

In one of the Monday Night upsets, the Titan's Defense and Special Teams led Bill's Hornets over the slumping Orcas. Bill also got a good Monday night performance from Stephen Davis. The only thing that kept Dean in this game was the great performance of new QB Trent Green, recently acquired from the Phantoms.

I tried to pick a good one, but our Game of the Week wasn't really that close, as the Triple-Digit Mark's Mariners did it again, surpassing the divisional rival Wizards. For those of you who are keeping score, the Mariners have broken the 1000 point barrier already this season. Their Points-Per-Game average is now at 118.

And, not so coincidentally, the team that's leading the Points-Against category (the "toughest schedule" award) is one of the three teams that plays the Mariners twice. Steve's Trojans lost by a single point this week to Dennis' Wolverines, who pulled it out on Monday Night with a good performance from K Al Delgreco.

Elvis was sighted at Husky Stadium this week as Thom's Phantoms beat the divisional rival Secret Agent Men. Grbac joined the Phantoms in a supplemental draft trade with Dean's Orcas. Seahawk coach Holmgren was caught here on the phone, also trying to make a trade with the Orcas.

The longest winning streek in the SFFL is now held by . . .
Brent & Doug's Ospreys, who slipped past their divisional rival, the Warlocks. The last time the Ospreys had a winning season (7-6), it was partially at the expense of their divisional rivals the Charlatans (4-9).

And that leaves only one game to report, involving the guy with the longest losing streak this season (9 games). The Buckheads lost a non-conference game to Shawn's Lone Gunmen.

No new waivers or trades to report this week, so have a Happy Halloween!

Picks

Hoody-Hoo I picked 'em all this week. Six and Oh, baby!
To be perfectly fair, it was a good week for all, with all but one owner picking at least 4-2. Overall standings are:
Marc (36-12) .750 , Thom (39-15) .722 , Mark (29-13) .690 , Bill (37-17) .685 , Dean (34-20) .630 , Dennis (34-20) .630 , Tony (30-24) .556
The also rans:
Doug (12-6) .667 , Brian (19-11) .633 , Jeff (17-13) .567

Game of the Week

This is an easy one to select but not so easy to pick. I think the Mariners will probably cement their divisional lead with a win over the Orcas. Dean's team hasn't managed triple-digits for three weeks, which coincides with their three-game losing streak.
I'll go with the Wolverines, Lone Gunmen, Hornets, Wizards and my own Phantoms to put an end to the Ospreys winning streak.

Week Ten 2000

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Upset again on Monday night, and losing their fourth game in a row, Dean's Orcas fell to Mark's Mariners this week. The Orcas have traditionally not done well in their own division. The Mariners managed triple digits despite leaving two key offensive weapons, Lamar Smith and Rickey Dudley, on the bench.

On one sad footnote to our story, if the regular season ended today the hapless Orcas would be as out of the playoffs as the Buckheads.

Speaking of the winless ones, Dennis' Wolverines improved their record to .500 with a win over Brian's brew crew. That brings the winless streak to 10 games now, or 11 if you count either the Conference Championship loss or the final regular season game of 1999. Quoth Brian: "I'll win the last 1 or 2 games . . . just to be a bastard . . . " -- so look out, Jeff and Dennis.

In other divisional play, defending Superbowl champion Shawn's Lone Gunmen trounced Marc's Secret Agent Men; and Bill's Hornets shot past the idling Warlocks of Tony.

In a fantastic Monday night performance, Antonion Freeman put the icing on the cake as Thom's Phantoms beat the Ospreys. Quarterback Elvis Grbac also contributed 500 yards to the Phantoms gross score.

And finally Jeff's Wizards moved into second place in the Prosser Division with a win over the 2-8 Trojans. The Trojans may have to wait until week 12 for their 3rd win -- when he plays Brian.

I have a side-bet proposal here - I know that the I Beat Brian prize was instituted because he won the first Superbowl (and Kurt didn't stick around long enough). However, if he manages a completely winless season I propose we drop that particular award. Alternatives, anyone?

Second to last week of waivers and trades, and none to report this week.

Picks

Six and Oh again! Pretty wide variance of picks this week otherwise. Tony and Brian actually picked Brian to win (hey, it could happen). Overall standings are:
Thom (45-15) .750 , Marc (40-14) .741 , Bill (42-18) .700 , Mark (32-16) .667 , Dean (38-22) .633 , Dennis (38-22) .633 , Tony (31-29) .517
The also rans:
Doug (17-7) .708 , Brian (22-14) .611 , Jeff (22-14) .611

Game of the Week

A battle this week between playoff contenders, both at 6-4. With my 12-0 crystal ball I predict that the Orcas will regain their winning ways this week.
Other winners should be the Wizards, Hornets, Phantoms, Mariners, and now that Terrell Davis is back, the Warlocks.

Week Eleven 2000

Nothing undecided here!

Marc's Secret Agent Men, led by two long receptions by WR Ike Hilliard, shot past the Hornets this week. This allowed Marc to keep his rookie playoff hopes alive. When asked about his third place standing in the SFFL, he replied "Getting married will kill your fantasy football abilities, I am living proof!!!"

Jeff's Wizards outplayed the Wolverines this week, getting a good performance from QB Rich Gannon. Dennis failed to keep up with Tyrone Wheatley on the bench.

The other Monday Night Contest saw Tony's Warlocks sit up and play. Terrell Davis sparked the Monday Night comeback as the Lone Gunmen to the Warlocks spell.

Our Game of the Week saw a stellar performance from recent acquisition Trent Green, leading Dean's Orcas past the family Ospreys. The Orcas are still in contention for a wild card spot, and Doug and Brent are still over .500 despite their two game losing streak.

Oh, did I mention losing streaks? The Buckheads nearly have the First Overall Draft Pick for the 2001 season wrapped up with their unsurprising loss to the highest point getters, Mark's Mariners.

And in the too feeble to care department, Thom's Phantoms somehow managed to surpass Steve's Trojans.

Two final reminders for ya -

One waiver acquisition to report so far, as Thom's Phantoms drop injured TE Cam Cleeland and pick up RB "Dimpled" Chad Morton of New Orleans.

Picks

Marc is nipping at my heels, but if I play solid through the final weeks I've got the picks wrapped again. The averages are all a lot higher this year, but I am not sure if that's just because we keep picking Mark to win.
If Brian had picked Mark he'd have been 6-0. Overall standings are:
Thom (50-16) .758 , Marc (45-15) .750 , Bill (45-21) .682 , Mark (36-18) .667 , Dean (42-24) .636 , Dennis (41-25) .621 , Tony (35-31) .530
The also rans:
Doug (17-7) .708 , Brian (27-15) .643 , Jeff (26-16) .619

Game of the Week

Gotta pick a divisional matchup with only two weeks of divisional play left. If the Buckheads lose this week they lock the first overall pick in 2001. If they win they break their 11 game streak.
That being said, I pick the Buckheads to win this one.
I'll also take the Hornets, Wizards, Lone Gunmen, Phantoms, and Mariners.

Week Twelve 2000

Thursday game this week!

First lets talk about the high-scoring division. Jeff's Wizards beat the Orcas this week 111 to 88. But the story of these games is the bench. In what must be some kind of record, the Orcas bench outscored the Wizards bench 162 to 107. The combined scores for these teams was an amazing 250 to 218, also in favor of the Orcas.

On the other end of the spectrum, Brian's Buckheads upended the Trojans this week to destroy his chances for a perfect season. WR Chris Carter scored almost half the Buckheads points.

In a non-divisional contest, Dennis' Wolverines spanked the Phantoms to crawl back to a .500 record. Quaterback Kerry Collins provided three touchdowns and the Wolverine defense held the Phantom's running backs scoreless.

In the two final divisional contests, Marc's Secret Agent Men slipped past the Lone Gunmen to move into a tie for the At Large division lead. In the West Spokane division, Bill's Hornets embarrassed the now Davis-less Warlocks by nearly a hundred points.

In the final non-divisional game, Mark's Mariners defeated the Ospreys but didn't manage to break 100 points. It looks like Mark is resting most of his players until the post-season.

Who's In?

Dennis has won his division, and all three teams of Spokane West are in the playoffs.
In the other conference, only Mark is guaranteed a playoff spot at this point.

Picks

So, who picked Brian to win this week? Overall standings are:
Thom (54-18) .750 , Marc (48-18) .727 , Bill (48-24) .667 , Mark (40-20) .667 , Jeff (35-19) .648 Dean (45-27) .625 , Dennis (43-29) .597 , Tony (37-35) .514
The also rans:
Doug (17-7) .708 , Brian (27-15) .643

Game of the Week

The Hornets have a slight edge in this divisional contest, although the Ospreys beat them the last time around. With the loss of Ricky Williams and the complete lack of production from either defense, combined with a bye from the 49ers, I think the scales tip in favor of the Hornets.
For the other divisional contests, I pick the Wolverines, Mariners, and Phantoms. I think the Secret Agent Men should have no trouble, and in the Battle of the Magi I'll pick Jeff's Wizards.

Week Thirteen 2000

Thursday game this week!

Upset of the week, and it wasn't the Game of the Week. Randy Moss led Dean's Orcas past the slumping Mariners this week with a pair of touchdowns on only seven long receptions. The surprised whales pick up their first divisional win of the year, and bring the Mariners within striking distance of the Wizards . . .

. . . who also won big this week. Jeff's Wizards won the battle of the magi, beating the Warlocks. The Spokane Conference playoffs look like this: If Bill wins in week 14 then he plays Tony in the first round. If Bill loses AND Dennis wins, then Dennis (by virtue of a perfect record in a very weak division) plays Tony in the first round . . .

. . . which means that Brent and Doug play the other team. They probably don't want to play Bill's Hornets again, since the Hornets thoroughly trashed them this week 106 to 19. Shown here is Jamal Lewis, who scored two touchdowns and 170 yards this week.

As I mentioned earlier, it's Mark's title to lose. Who he'll play in the next round is a toss-up until next week, with four teams within one game. The current favorite is Marc's Secret Agent Men, who beat the resurgent Trojans this week.

A reminder: Even if you aren't in the playoffs (hey, I'm not!), you're in the spudbowl. Keep watching this space for playoff updates and results, and during week 17 we'll have a special vote on the rule's committee proposed changes for the 2001 season.

Prizes, what prizes?

Also in next week's letter, an announcement of who's won the regular season prizes. This week, I'm taking a look at the Toughest Schedule award. Currently the Ross brothers are vying for this honor - Steve has 1150 points against, and Tony has 1146 points against. Running a distant third (but first in our hearts) are the Buckheads, with 1122 points against.

Picks

We're coming down to the wire on the picks, and I have a slight lead -- but Marc is closing the gap! Overall standings are:
Thom (58-20) .744 , Marc (53-19) .736 , Bill (53-25) .679 , Mark (44-22) .667 , Jeff (39-21) .650 , Dean (49-29) .628 , Dennis (47-31) .603 , Tony (37-35) .514
The also rans:
Doug (17-7) .708 , Brian (27-15) .643

Game of the Week

I'm calling this one the Commissioners Cup, and this year I think the scales tip in favor of the overgrown dolphin. Other than that game, this should be an easy week to pick -- I'll go with the Mariners, Secret Agent Men, Wizards, Lone Gunmen, and the Hornets to eliminate my injury-riddled Phantoms from the playoffs.

Week Fifteen 2000

(first round of the playoffs)

3 finals and a longshot to report:

Ospreys 94+Vanderjagt, Wolverines 74
Mariners 137+James, Orcas 82
Wizards 85+Wilkins, Secret Agent Men 84

Hornets 100+Manning, Warlocks 42+Indy DT
(more bad news Tony, you lose a tie also - Muhammad 10, Favre 7)

Next weeks Conference Chamionships:
  Mark's Mariners vs Jeff's Wizards
Brent & Doug's Ospreys vs Bill's Hornets (or, possibly, but not likely, Tony's Warlocks)

Stay tuned!

                  --Thom

PS Marc had a question about the tiebreakers. Here's the rule:

List three players, in sequential order, whose individual scores will be
used to break ties. See above for an example -- Bill and Tony also
listed two more tie breakers each, but it wasn't necessary to go beyond
the first.
Doug & Brent's Ospreys 108
Tony's Warlocks 73
Dean's Orcas 82
Jeff's Wizards 88
Dennis' Wolverines 74
Bill's Hornets 100
Mark's Mariners 168

Week Sixteen 2000

Subject: Week 16 final - welcome to the Superbowl!

(and the Spudbowl)

Congratulations to first-time superbowler Brent & Doug's Ospreys. One of the oldest teams in the league, the Ospreys got in on great performances from 49ers Jeff Garcia and Terrell Owens. One other point of note -- this spoils a four year streak of spud-bowl appearances (the first three of the old style).

Congratulations also to first-time superbowler Mark's Mariners. The Mariners lost in the playoffs to the Phanthoms in 1996 and to the Lone Gunmen in 1999, but this year their path was paved with gold. Daunte Culpepper gave them several points and Monday Night's Marshall Faulk sealed the deal. The Mariners finish the year the way they started -- in the large triple digits. Still gonna quit the league, Mark?

Remember folks, all lineups are due Saturday Morning, due to the Saturday games (can Seattle win another one?). This weeks bye is the Cleveland Browns, and there aren't many of them in our playoffs. There are only three questions left on our Y2K plate:

 * Who will win the Superbowl?
 * Who will win the Spudbowl?
 * Where's the Superbowl party this year?

                 --Thom

PS Quite serious about that last question. Reply to me if you know of any options - thanks!

Week Seventeen 2000

The scores for the superbowl are final.

Mark's Mariners defeated Brent & Doug's Ospreys 117 to 74. Marshall Faulk was the main man, nabbing 44 points. The Ospreys potential points were 119, but that's nothing compared to the Mariners 194.

Congratulations also to the Treasurer's team who win the Spud Bowl this year. I've asked before, and I'll ask one more time -- where's the superbowl party this year?
